How will be E-Waste in the landfill?

Growing with this digital era may sometimes make us become a crazy customer in collecting electronics devices (e.g. cameras, handphone, laptops, televisions, etc.). Often, we will try to replace our outdated devices in every time the new version appears.
Those outdated electronics will be your E-Waste (electronic waste) and you usually don’t think much on how to dispose it in the better way, at least to ensure that the discard of your E-Waste will not damage your environment. However, if you consider the damage of one of your device, for instance your laptop, what can it do to the environment and your health, then when you realize, you might rethink about throwing your E-Waste to the landfill.

How the materials that compose your E-Waste can affect human health?
Some of those materials are listed below.
LEAD – Lead is one of material that composes most of your electronic devices with different percentage for each device. For example, approximately 20% part of a CRT television is composed by lead. Lead is a toxic substance which may lead to some serious health problems. It can be the cause of cancers, learning and behavior disorders and even death.
MERCURY – Mercury is another most common material found in electronic devices. It is a material that can cause danger to your life and it can damage your environment as well. It can harm our health especially in central and peripheral nervous systems when it leaked to the atmosphere. Besides, even the small percentage of it can damage the ecosystem, for instance, a 25-acre lake to the point where fish are unsafe to eat can be contaminated only by 1/70th of a teaspoon of mercury.
CADMIUM & ARSENIC – Both of cadmium and arsenic are dangerous material. They are carcinogenic and may cause several health issues. Besides, when your E-Waste is burnt, it releases both of this material to the atmosphere, which can cause soil and air pollution's.
BERYLLIUM – Breathing in the air which contained beryllium or beryllium may cause a chronic lung disorder called beryllicosis. In high amount, this material also may cause cancer in human.
POLYVINYL CHLORIDE (PVC) – PVC is a material that usually composed a plastic and it also component of your E-waste. Hazardous chemical additives (e.g. phthalates) can drain when PVC components of your E-Waste are sent to landfill.
Do not worry, It CAN be handled
When you want to throw your E-Waste just directly to the trash, try to consider whether it can be recycled or not. For instance, CRT televisions are 98% recyclable, so sending your TV and all its toxins to landfill will completely open the gate of your health issues and it will also put your environment in danger.
